This interesting look at love between a Muslim man and a Christian girl is downright prophetic. It is set in 1917-1918, was written in 1937, and it still rings true today. The clash of culture and religion was well laid out.

When this book opens Ali an Azerbaijan is graduating from high school, and longs to marry Nino a Georgian Christian. They live in Baku the capital, and they are under Czarist Russia's thumb on the eve of WWI. Great story.

Bijzonder mooi geschreven. De culturele verschillen goed uitkomend, inclusief de uitdagingen, maar de liefde die die grote verschillen kan overwinnen.

Een prachtig verhaal over liefde voor je partner, liefde voor je geloof en liefde voor je geboortegrond.
