This is by far my favorite book I've read in the past 2 years. In the beginning, it started off slow and I wasn't sure I would be able to get through it. Like everyone has said this is not a book to be read at night but... I would only say that about the beginning. Towards the end of the first half of the book, I got used to it and it didn't bother me or scare me. Towards the end I was SHOCKED! When I thought it was over new information popped up and I couldn't put down the book. I loved how people could keep a secret for years and still, in the end, keep it. I'm not good at reviews but I will say this book was amazing and I for sure will check out more books by Simone St. James!!!

4 stars. This was really good. I would love to see this as a television show or a movie. I think it could be great if done right.
This was my first book by this author and I really like her writing style. From the very first page she pulled me into the story and I was hooked all the way through. It was very addicting. The pacing was great, I never felt like it was dragging at any point of the book. It all flowed very nicely. I loved the small town setting and the Sun Down Motel being the primary place where everything happens. On top of that, the hotel is haunted with ghosts. I loved all of that. I liked the dual timelines following Viv in the 80s and her niece, Carly, in the present.
Now, for what I didn’t like was that I wasn’t crazy about either main character. They were both a bit too stupid and reckless for my taste. But I at least understood Carly’s reasoning. She wanted closure on what happened to her aunt. Cool. Viv was just kinda dumb. I got her reasoning and it was admirable but the way she went about everything was so careless and wrong. She just didn’t seem that bright to me. I thought the side characters were way more interesting than the two of them honestly.
I will say I thought the ending was pretty good and I did not see any of it coming. It wraps up really well even if there were a few loose ends and questions that needed answers. I wasn’t mad about it though. Overall, this was a fun read. The suspense was great and I loved the paranormal elements. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

I expected more from these ghosts. Is YA horror a thing? This might be it.
Murderino excellence! Great combo of supernatural and true crime. Very enjoyable and thrilling. SSDGM!
