“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
“Kind” said the boy
When I was a kid I mentioned to my pastor at the time that I was kind. I considered it a gift from the world that I was kind and that I could share it with others. I would later find out that in the decades he had been conducting these conversations I was the first child to say that my kindness was a gift.
As I got older I was told that my kindness would vanish. I was fed horrifying reality after horrifying reality that my sympathy and empathy would wane until I’m bitter and resentful. People said it like it was something that was ideal or should happen. That the world is only right and proper if I’m miserable.
Yet, call it being naive or a fool, but I have found that I have grown more sympathetic and empathetic as I have gotten older. I care more now than I ever did as a child. I see the bitterness and resentment manifest in my colleagues/classmates as we have gotten older. And while they turn their backs and wallow in their anger, I can’t bring myself to throw away that care for others nor do I want to. I don’t want to live in a shallow world where I’m forced to be angry.
I hope I continue to be kind as I grow old.

So very peaceful and healing. I wish I had this book a few years ago when I was at my lowest.
(My only qualm is that I struggled to read the handwriting at first)

“What is the bravest thing you've ever said? asked the boy.
'Help,' said the horse.
'Asking for help isn't giving up,' said the horse. 'It's refusing to give up.”
“One of our greatest freedoms is how we react to things.”
“When the big things feel out of control
focus on what you love right under your nose”
“Sometimes I worry you'll all realise I'm ordinary," said the boy.
"Love doesn't need you to be extraordinary." said the mole.”
“Always remember you matter, you're important and you are loved, and you bring to this world things no one else can.”
― Charlie Mackesy, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse
