The Cruel Prince meets Six of Crows- female assassin of the reviled king.
Tropes: found family, enemies to lovers, diversity, all things fae
Cons: Very repetitive in the first quarter but picked up pace around page 100. TW: self harm, SA, alcoholism.
Pros: I loved the thematic approach to biracial issues, self harm and alcoholism. The story is well thought out with a colorful band of characters. This is the fae book we needed. Also, anything with strong female leads has my heart!

This book was absolutely fantastic! The plot moved at a great pace, the romance is definitely more of a subplot. Keera’s story is heart wrenching and beautiful. Has all my favorite tropes (enemies to lovers, one bed, found family, etc.). A lot of the plot was predictable, but the ending was a surprising twist. The magic system in the Fae territory was really fun and unique. The book overall reminded me of a mash between ToG and ACOTAR, but has lots of unique plot.
I instantly ran out to get the next book in the series, A Shadow Crown.

Picked this up on a whim due to the mentioned sapphic representation. I wanted to DNF a third of the way in because the bury your gays trope was becoming very apparent, but I continued in hopes that the remaining plot would make up for that... I finished in spite of and won't continue with the rest of the series as the plot wasn't too intriguing.

It was meh. I was bored and didn’t really enjoy it. Just pushed through it. I didn’t want to DNF but I probably should have

This book caught me by surprise! I just had picked it up at random and honestly I was hooked! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the pacing felt weird to me, and some things that happened felt very sudden or out of nowhere. Other than that it was such a fun read and I am looking forward to continuing the series!
