OMG.

Excellent 2nd novel to a fast paced and fascinating trilogy. Kelsea continues to be a realistic heroine, struggling with doubts and real consequences to her decisions. I liked her and what efforts she was making to improve her Kingdom. A large part of the book provides glimpses into a very unpleasant modern Industrial period that the early settlers fled, which helps to break the regular fantasy story tropes. The ending left me yearning for more and very happy I have book 3 sitting on my shelves.

Needs a trigger warning for rape, abuse, and self-harm. This isn't a typical YA sci-fi/fantasy (I think?), but the fact that it is so dark and twisted is why I love it.

what happens when you finish the second book of a series you adore? hopefully you have already purchased or borrowed the third.

the world of the tearling is a fascinating one; one which captures the whole of my love for fantasy and braids with it a passion for revolution. for change. for passion and love and a future i dearly wish for my own children. the juxtaposition of lily freeman’s (i refuse to call her lily mayhew, because fuck greg) terrifyingly dystopian world and queen kelsea’s world of creatures who travel by fire and other inexplicable magic has me in raptures for more.

the wit of the glynn queen is legendary and i look forward to her adventures in the fate of the tearling.

praying for the safe return of father tyler, as well.

long live the regent and may he return to the tearling with the true queen.

ps if i don’t find out who her father is……

Didn't like the character development

I love this series! Is it time for third one to be released yet?!

This is my NEW FAVOURITE BOOK. This is the reason I READ.I want to hugg the author rightnow. Its been so long since I have read such a fast paced and amazing book. Do yourselves a favor and pick this book up. I am so bad at writing reviews but this one had to be written. I want answers ok? ok :( I already miss the world ... Sigh

Ok, finally have the review.

The second book was even better than the first. So many things are happening. Characters we love are changing/growing, we’re introduced to some new characters (that I did end up loving as well). Even though there was a lot going on, I felt that Johansen handled everything well. I did have one issue with a character, but it was minor.

I was just able to finish this at lunch, plus all the feels, so a review will come later.

I really feel like along with the multiple read dates, there should also be multiple ratings/reviews. This review is based on my second reading. While I still feel that this book is a 3-star, I felt like I understood it better this time around and the ending alone deserves a .5 star. So now I'm rating it 3.5. The ending for me is the best part of the book. The rest of it was hard to get into because of the constant alternating povs. The author changes povs so often that they change within chapters. It makes it so easy to stop reading when the pov changes but you haven't even gotten to a new chapter. It made the reading slow-going for me. I would have preferred shorter chapters and the pov changes to happen at chapter changes.
