I had complicated feelings about this book since I read it for the first time as a kid.
I like that we get one view point adult, and that Victor and Ida are more than card box cut out because adult in kid books often are, even Esther shows some deep in her last apperance with Barbossa. I like the kids but I specially love Mosca, Riccio and Hornet.
But I think the fantasy twist at the ending has no build up and the story lines dont end in a way i find statisfying.
I hate endings that break up the band, I find it specially irksome who gets to live a "nice" life and who doesnt.
