Alice Feeney does it again. She’s really good at throwing in the twists you can see coming and some you can’t. Definitely kept my interest the whole way through and I enjoyed the dysfunctional Darker family.

I loved this book. The nod to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None was much appreciated. I also LOVED the M. Night Shyamalan-esque twist at the end. I had ZERO clue it was Trixie and the Nana behind it all to avenge a very DEAD Daisy. (I mean I kind of suspected Nana, but when they kept referencing her dead body, I gave up that theory.) An overall great read.

miss alice feeney!!??
alright. where to begin. i might be a mess because i just finished the book.
first, the only things i predicted were nanas fake death and conor being trixies dad - everything else, nah. ghosts??? no chance
i didn’t think this was a supernatural book at all, the thought didn’t cross my mind.
i really enjoyed the different characters in the book - each were different enough that i didn’t ever confuse them with each other, or share characteristics with another - this felt a bit generic sometimes but overall i liked it.
nancy - desire to be super young, craves attention, cannot handle the fact that she couldn’t be an actress, yet never worked towards being a proper mum. the main issue i had with her was that she didn’t give daisy the chance to have the other surgery… what kind of mother wouldn’t try everything ..
frank - musician and orchestra obsessed, typical absent father, buys the kids love. shit dad, shit son. i mushed for him at certain points but that’s only coz i have daddy issues
rose and lily - gave me evil stepsisters from cinderella vibes. got on my nerves, their squabble was annoying (that was the point), and i knew they’d be fighting over conor throughout their childhood which was proven as i read on. rose felt like there was a lot of potential for her to be a nicer person, but the past never left her i suppose. lily was similar to her mother in that her desire to be young just made her unbearable and alice wrote it so well.
trixie - you tricked me. i really just ignored her character tbh, i got suspicious at points but thought it would be disappointing if it was her. however, the way it was done was fun (ghost interactions + same heart condition)
conor - didn’t want him to die but when i read his reaction to daisys accident AND saw him initiating the plan i really just didn’t care LMAO. man’s was a shitty guy at heart. what a pussy
nana had my heart, even at the end. i’m sad she died
