Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this fantastic book. It took me a bit to get to this. Why? Because originally I didn’t know it was a sequel. I was still riding the high of my love for Heartless and knew I had to read this. Then I found out it was part 2! So I quickly got the first one and tore through it. Then there was a delay! But finally I got the conclusion I was longing for.

It’s a retelling of rumplestiltskin and it was delightful. Why not 5 stars you ask? Because I felt it went a bit to long in areas and the ending seemed nearly too easy. But Meyers is queen of retelling sand she made it all work.

Review: This is a book I read for a challenge with my online bookclub.

I simply love twisted and dark fairy tales. This one was so good from book one to book two. Serilda is a strong character who fights for what she loves and believes in. The only complaint is a need for a story from the Erlking.

I found it to be alright. I didn't like it as much as her other book series but it was different. The ending was nice, not because it ended but because it had a nice closing for the story.

What a great wrap up to the duology! This is a dark YA Rumpelstiltskin retelling full of creatures and folklore. This series is such a good match for my mood and now I just want to keep reading stories of this variety such as After the Forest by Kell Woods and the Little Thieves series by Margaret Owen.
I really enjoy whimsical/dark/creepy folklore/fairytales and Marissa Meyer does such a great job with this. I love the folklore and creatures used in this world and the gods who bestow gifts and curses, or maybe each one is a bit of both. I imagine this tale isn't for everyone, but it is definitely a favorite for me!

I actually loved this book!

It didn't feel that long which was a plus but the atmosphere seemed really dark, which I didn't like.... Anyway, the whole plot was pretty believable but the fact that they smushed the whole plot of this second book into nine months? That wasn't very believable, I mean I guess if I go back and count the days, it might add up, but in my mind it doesn't.

I loved the relationship between Gild and Serilda and how it developed, and I know that Erkling was the villain, but I couldn't help feeling bad for him. He just wanted to have his true love and make her happy, albeit the methods that he tried to use were not the best, but he had good intentions.
