I ended up agreeing a lot with Rousseau on specific logical strands regarding the mechanics of the invention of human society, though his more general views of "natural" and "civilized" humanity are far less nuanced/developed. While the general conceit is stuck in the past, many pieces of inference and analysis would still be of great (or even greater) use to modern society.

Just read the middle third if you only want to read about the state of nature theory. The theories on the origin of language are a bit "wot if ya mum ran on batteries".
