I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. Full blog tour on 8/8.

I truly enjoy Kylie's writing! She can write both funny and emotional strangled characters which know how to tug at your heartstrings.
Adele's and Pete's story may be, for some, a cliche, but for me, it gives more detail not only to the character growth of the female character but also to the male one. True, in some scenes I wanted to punch Pete in the balls because he acted very immature in comparison to Adele but his own motivations behind his actions were revealed and you can understand why even a grown man can have commitment issues and fears true affection.

And even the side characters were great! Adele's stepmom is a bad-ass with the soft touch and while Adele's father is a little overprotective to the point of annoyance, the story works out, giving depth to the characters. Actually, the only time I felt something similar was on the YA novel by Kylie Scott, which was "Trust". And that was one great book!

DID NOT FINISH: 10%

I hate and hate to shelved this book under DNF. I love Kylie Scott. Her work on dive band is marvelous especially Lead. Miss Scott is a queen of flirting and sexy banter. She creates characters that are just so perfect with her story.

But her latest book is just a major disappointment. The characters are just dry. No chemistry between Adele and Pete. Adele is... lost. She feisty but her connection with Pete is no where makes sense. The story that promising forbidden romance ends up a story about confusion and no chemistry.

Both of them were ridiculously immature.

I am such a sucker for older man/younger woman forbidden romance and I loved this one! Pete was an idiot at times but I loved this book. The writing was fantastic - it had the perfect amount of humor, angst and steam. Can't wait for more by this author!

Talk about angst 🥵. This was so full of delicious angst and explosive heat.

Was on a look out to find something like colour me pretty, but this didn’t do. It didn’t serve the angst, like I was hoping. Also, there was no grovelling nothing just hero made up the mind that the heroine should marry him because he’s in love?? Took him long enough to come to the senses but where’s the grand gesture, feeling of remorse etc etc also the epilogue gave me nothing. I wanted to know more what happened after their marriage, their baby.. but it ended with with fcking before the marriage 😒

I just had my first taste of Kylie Scott, and let me tell you, overall I was pleased. The book starts off with a bang and the start of it is so addictive, you won't be able to put it down!

If you're into steamy age gap romances, then this book is made for you! However.... what the ending left me feeling a little conflicted, hence the 3.5-star rating. I mean, I had a hunch it would go where it did, but boy did it go there and then some. What started off as a tantalizingly hot and angsty story with a grumpy but sexy MMC, suddenly turned into this odd sense of neediness from both characters and all that juicy desire just fizzled away in the ending pages.

BUT like I said - the start of the book. YES, YES, PLEASE.

On a minor note, it would have been nice if the author had paid more attention to the language used by the characters, particularly given the setting of the story in Australia. As a reader, it's a little jarring to encounter characters who speak in American English, with words like "mom" instead of "mum". It's a small gripe, but one that detracted slightly from my enjoyment of the book.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time was a heartwarming second-chance romance. With the added flair of a relationship forbidden due to age and connection, Scott takes readers on their journey of crossing paths seven years after they last had contact and explores the effects of all the unfinished business that’s been building over the years.

With snippets into the past to show the connection they originally fostered, it helped to bring me into their present and get a good feel for their chemistry and what was lost because of their years apart. I loved that there was this undercurrent of things left unsaid when Adele and Pete were around one another, and how their contentment with each other unfurled only when they were alone. Scott’s depiction really captured that comfortable ease they shared making it so that I could feel their history lurking under the surface. Adele’s lack of filter and her forward nature complemented her ability to be open and vulnerable—offsetting the stoic nature of a supposedly unshakable Pete so well—and she was easily a unique heroine in a story dealing with an older hero who was hard to read.

One thing I think that could’ve made this story even better was if it had had that stomach-dipping kind of tension, both sexual and emotional—the kind that you expect from a story that had a tumultuous ending years ago. If there had been that intense longing mired with the emotional upheaval, I would’ve fallen so much harder for their story. As it was, though, I enjoyed the even-keel nature of their romance, and how easy it was to fall into wanting them to overcome the barriers holding their attraction back.
