3.5-4 stars

This was a quick, easy listen with great narration. This is a friends-to-more, age-difference, second-chance kind of story that works. My only issue that reduced the rating was a like-hate thing I felt about the male lead character, Pete. He was a commitment-phobe and flaky with jerkish tendencies and I found that element a bit predictable. Overall, it was an engaging story.

I’ve been off Andi Ardnt as a narrator of late because of her duet work with the same individual, actually I really enjoyed her on her own. After all, I first listened to her with the Stage Dive series.

In short, nothing stood out or made it fun. It was a little redundant and boring. No big plot or unraveling, not much of anything really.
And I did not buy the age gap. I'm a sucker for a good age gap story and this one just didn't do it for me. One of the resons was also the fact that the age gap between the MCs wasn't that obvious. If it wasn't said a few times in the story I would never guess Pete was 40. I'd say he's the same age as Adele. And I wasn't a big fan of his. He kept blowing hot and cold with the reader having no clue as to why. And Adele wasn't acting very mature either. She hasn't matured at all since her teenage days. And that sucked. And on top of that there was no connection or spark between them at all. At least none that I could see. The sexy times were hot, but that's about all.
Overall, It Seemed Like A Good Idea at the Time wasn't at all what I was hoping for or expecting. It was ok, but I was hoping for so much more than just ok.
I will continue to read this author’s work as I have thoroughly enjoyed a lot of her books. Just not this one.

It's a 2.5 star read. I mean, it just came across a bit shallow characterisations. i loved Adele and how quick she is about calling Pete out for his bs but we get nothing from his pov and that basically made me feel nothing for him except exasperations and annoyance.

More like a 4.5/5 stars really.
I always love a good Kylie Scott book, this one fell short for me because
Spoilerof the whole pregnancy thing to sort out the problems between Pete and Adele.
Which is a shame because for a book with a trope I wasn't particularly keen on (young girl / older guy who works with dad) I actually really enjoyed the read and would have given it 5 stars if not for the "resolution".
I'm pretty sure Kylie Scott could write anything and I would still love it!

I had high expectations for this book. After all the title, cover and the blurb spoke of great things. However, it did not live up to my expectations. Not that it was a bad read, but it had the potential to be so much greater.

It Seemed Like a Great Idea at the Time is the latest romance novel by Kylie Scott. It is a slow burn romance featuring an older hero (Pete) and younger heroine (Adele).

The story is told solely from Adele's POV. Anyone familiar with my reviews knows I am a fan of this narration. It allows me to get inside the characters' heads and gain an understanding of their emotions and actions. The story moved between the past and the present, which allowed me to compare Adele's teenage and adult feelings. There was some level of growth, but sometimes her immaturity during her adult years shined through.

I liked Adele, however I thought she was too easy on Pete. After the way he treated her, and his many rejections, she should have made him grovel. I guess it is true when they say love makes you do stupid things.

I could not get a clue as to Pete's feelings as his voice is missing from the story. Pete ran hot and cold making it difficult to pin down his true feelings where Adele is concerned. Even when the story ended, I had a hard time accepting that what he felt was real. He struck me as someone who did not know what he wanted. A player who had no qualms about breaking a woman's heart, Adele's included. A veritable ass. His actions were not that of a forty-year-old man but more like a twenty-year-old boy.

The chemistry between them was nonexistent. I never felt as there were any sparks between them and as such, I had a hard time relating to them as a couple.

There were fun moments, which made me chuckle. Adele's way with words made for funny and interesting conversation.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Overall, this was an entertaining read, but it did not wow me as I had expected

Mixed feelings about this. I really did like elements of this... mostly... I think...

but I didn't really like any of the characters... all of them had some character trait that was just plain irritating. I didn't feel that this was a romance... it was almost sad in the way that they ended up together. Like it was inevitable, and not in a HEA way.

*ARC for review*

I enjoyed this book but there were also parts that bothered me so let's start with what I didn't like.
First of all I didn't feel a connection between Adele and Pete, there was nothing there for me and I didn't get why they wanted to be together.
Second I didn't like Pete. I don't know why but somehow I couldn't stand him.
And last the "plot twist" is my most hated plot device ever and if a book has it I can't rate it over 3.5 stars except it's exceptionally good written and fits the story which for me wasn't the case in this book.

Now to the good parts. I really liked Adele and how headstrong she was and how she didn't take any shit.
The writing style was really good and it had a nice flow to it.
The overall story idea was good.
And I really liked how we got flashbacks from how it all started and how they met.

All in all it wasn't a bad book just not exactly my cup of tea and I bet other people can enjoy it a lot.

Perfect reading while I had a manicure and pedicure! Haven't read a book from this author for a while but I enjoyed this one so I might go back to them.
