Some really interesting portrayals here, but also a lot of hearsay and speculation. I also didn't really like the irreverent tone at times as it felt jarringly out of place with some of the historical depictions of women. I did learn about women I'd never heard of, though, some of whom definitely deserve an entire biography devoted solely to their exploits and accomplishments.

Truth of the matter is, I quite enjoy the book. It’s refreshing to read about historical figures, known and not so known, written in such a fresh and funny way. At first, I genuinely thought that this was going to be a book where the author would just blindly redeem all the historical figures, seeing no fault in them, you know just because it’s a woman writing about fellow women. And no, do not get your knickers in a twist. I’m not saying that because I’m anti woman or anything, but if I want to read a proper account of a historical figure, I want it to be the way it is; if said person has a fault, call it out. Just because I’m a woman, I’m not going to blindly defend all women when clearly they did something wrong.

Okay, now I’m rambling. What I’m trying to say, I love how fresh the author pokes fun by writing things in brackets, which I presume was her own comment about the events that she was writing in the book. It really humanises these princesses. I really did see the humanity in them as opposed to these mythical creatures of the past.

I genuinely have no complaint about the book, apart from a little disappointment that Noor Inayat Khan didn’t have her own chapter. When I first read about her in a BBC article, I have been quite taken by her story life, and was kinda hoping the author would talk about her, which to be fair, she did talk about Noor Inayat Khan, but not that many. Apart from that, I have to say I completely enjoy the reading experience. I did took a longer time finishing the book, but that’s because work happens and whatnots.

I do think that if you are interested in reading some of the amazing princesses mentioned in the book, this would not be a bad place to start your journey in learning more the Princesses, as it is compact, chock full of information; enough to give you a head start.

It was cool to learn about women throughout history but I do wish the author was a bit more understanding of their situations. Just bc some of them were depressed doesn’t mean they were “crazy”

The title of this book rubbed me in a wrong way once I realized what the stories were about. While many of the princesses were interesting, some just felt like they were thrown in afterthoughts or their stories weren't as interesting. For having so many sections, I felt like this book should have been longer.
