Beyond realistically detailing the raw fear and gnawing hunger of poverty during the Dust Bowl and emigration to California, the author captures well the mental and emotional struggles of being a parent, a child, a person, during those times, and how differing groups understood and dealt with their situation & futures. Despite opposing views, the audience was able to understand and sympathize with both main characters’ points of view.

Kristin Hannah is one of my favorite writers, and she captivates you in her story telling.
The content of the story itself was a little slow moving for me, but I suppose that is the dust bowl.
