Haddix always has these interesting concepts but sometimes the execution isn’t what you’d hope it to be. I will say, just like Double Identity, this is another one I liked back when I was the age demographic but doesn’t hold up for adults as a re-read YA.

I really like this when we read it in middle school. Re reading as a 28 year old it was still good. I wish there was more to it. Like why were the adults making this big diphtheria science experiment? Was it a Eugenics project? Were they trying to bred a stronger, more immune generation? I just want more twisty details. More sci fi/psychological thriller at the end. But this is a kids book so I get it.

Fascinating and very original story. I started listening to the story without knowing the plot and I was certainly surprised! The end wasn't the most satisfying but overall, I thought this was a very good book.
