The good ones are really truly good (“Poem Of The One World,” “Life Story,” all of the poems about Percy) — but I can’t say the majority of these poems will stick with me.
"I try to be good but sometimes
a person just has to break out and
act like the wild and springy thing
one used to be. It's impossible not
to remember the *wild* and want it back."
This was my first experience with Mary Oliver's work, and I must say, I'm impressed. While the first bit of the collection didn't immediately grab me, suddenly I found myself at the end and craving more. Oliver's ode to nature evokes the feelings of awe, calm, and peace that one earns from a walk through the woods. What a refreshing a delightful collection for the nature-lovers out there.

I love Mary Oliver. Her poems vacillate between sparking that thing that extraordinary poems spark, and coming up short of doing so. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

I just do not fair well with nature poetry. I have never fully understood it or could connect in the way I desperately want to. However I enjoyed the poem Three Things to Remember a heck of a lot.
