I love Mary Oliver, as always, but this volume didn’t have any of the poems that stay with me like others of her books.

second time reading this collection this year. still so beautiful and even lovelier than i remember
———
4.5 stars. a beautiful collection of words.
“the abundance of the leaves, the quietness of the branches, the hopelessness of my effort. And I am in that delicious and important place, roaring with laughter, full of earth-praise.

I havent found a collection of Mary Oliver's work that I havent thoroughly enjoyed. She has a way of seeing the world in such small ways that reminds you just how grand the world is. If you havent read any of her work, this is a wonderful place to start.

No words to describe Mary Oliver's prowess. She writes with such elan that each poem felt like a gem mined from the earth. I'll read another poetry book by her before this challenge ends.
My favourites:
1. I go down to the shore
2. I happened to be standing
3. Foolishness? No, it's not.
4. If I were
5. Poem of the one world
6. Three things to remember
7. Today
8. The moth, the mountains, the rivers
9. A thousand mornings
10. I have decided
11. In our woods sometimes a rare music
12. The morning paper
13. The poet compares human nature to the ocean from which we came
14. Life story
15. Varanasi

Just lovely, as always. Some of these poems are more autobiographical than I've ever seen in her poetry.

I love her delicate poems and prose. I love her poems about her dog—Percy. And how each poem is woven with gratitude for simple things in life.Â
