Even though my least favourite volume in the Dark Tower, I absolutely love the song included at the end of every chapter. I loved it enough to search for it on the internet, print it out and keep the piece of paper hidden in my school folder behind the timetable.

Commala-come-come,
The battle’s now begun!
And all the foes of men and rose
Rise with the setting sun.

6th novel in the Dark Tower series has quicker legs than Wolves of the Calla but still suffers from that lack of a flowing story in parts. It’s still very good though and after the ending to book 5 you press right along wanting to know what’s going on next. The story almost has a LOTR: Two Towers feel in that it’s split up into different parts. The Roland and Eddie section was great and certainly had me gripped with its very unusual quest. The Jake and Callahan part was surprisingly short but still excellent. The Susan one had its up and downs, the best being the background story and journey through New York, the worst with Susan stuck in the Mia trap. The last section I quite liked though I get the feeling many may not as it might be looked at as pointless. Overall I enjoyed reading this one but it’s still not in the league of the first four novels.

Actually a 4.5 star

I'd heard that Song of Susannah was one of the weaker, if not the weakest, of the Dark Tower books so I went in with very low expectations and I was very pleasantly surprised - I thought it was fantastic! I can see why some people would think that certain elements of the novel are ridiculous (I'm trying to be spoiler free here) but I loved these meta connections.
