I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
The starting chapter has an air of mystery to it and makes the reader intrigued as to who the person described is and what has happened. Sometimes, especially at the beginning of the book, you can get lost in details but the further you plough through the book the better-oriented you get.
The change in narration and style of the chapters was a nice touch and it gave the reader better sense of from whose perspective we experience the events.
The book is full of beautiful metaphors. The one I especially liked treated war as a tunnel through which you have to get through to reach "light" - better times.
I loved how with just a few words the author was able to make me ponder on issues that are important but to questions about which there are no answers. The book prompts the reader to think about the fact that life is fleeting and we shouldn't put things off because we might not get the chance to do them at all.
"The Space in Between" shows that to see what war truly means one should look at how it impacts a life of a single person. A person just like you or me trying to live a life, taking what life gives and dealing with it despite the horrors that take place around them.
