Very interesting idea for a tory but poorly executed. It was fast paced so that kept me reading, but there were a lot of things that just didn’t make sense. Almost contradictory to the characters and story. Ending was really disappointing.

The Island is Natasha Preston's latest book. It is a YA thriller following six influencers as they accept an exclusive invitation to spend a weekend on a luxurious island amusement park / hotel before it even opens to public .

This was a very engaging read . I enjoyed it all the way through . I was slightly sad I guessed the twist ( well , one of them anyway. ) I also read a lot of thrillers/ mysteries though. I found the characters while not likable in aspects to be well presented . I could've used more of a character background on some of them. All together though , I definitely recommend . Rated it 4 stars .

how i wish i could take back the time i spent reading this book. imagine the worst parts of one of us is lying and mix that with the most cliche teen horror movie with stupid characters, then turn that up to 10. the characters and motives are cliche, incredibly stupid decisions,  and a hard to understand setting. i was willing to look past the influencer grab of the book because, with a horror/thriller you can usually get past it but the book reads so juvenile. it really really needs some more editing because, for a dark book with cussing and gore, characters acted like 8 year olds and talked like a millennial despite their influencer status. nothing the characters attempt to do actually gets done, and the characters are so unmemorable they all blur together. i barely knew the difference between the 4 main guys. not to mention the killer was so obvious to me from the beginning, and i’m usually never right. for those of you who appreciate closure, rest assured this book has none. it “wraps up” in literally the last 4 pages with a horrible reveal and ending with absolutely no way to tell what really happened. i would also argue that too many people died. we never felt authentically for any character, so not a biggie, but honestly like the fact that everyone was dying for what?
what was up with killing will first? there was no motive there. it should’ve been him killing the leaders then going after the crew once they find will or something. and WHY DID HE HIDE WILL BUT NOT ANYONE ELSE?!? the fact that his motive was “were gonna be so famous” BOI WHATT
i actually cannot with this book. i recommend this to no one, it’s not even worth reading to make fun of. it’s so incredibly juvenile and cringe. 1/5 stars

My sister recommended this author, and it was my first time reading one of her books. The writing for the Island is very complex, but I think it fits the teen horror genre.

The story is interesting, and I gotta hand it to the author, I didn’t predict who the killer was.

That said, I wasn’t entirely convinced by the logistics of some of the plot points. At times the island seems large, but at others it’s small and you can see it all from the third floor of a building. The passage of time didn’t feel organic either.

Also, the final 3 pages were just a hot mess. I think she would have been fine without the final “twist”. It was too over the top and the buildup wasn’t there.

All in all, it was a fine book. I was pretty hooked and read it quickly. I don’t think I will be reading any of her other works though any time soon.
