This book ended with the last of my sanity. It was somehow very intriguing even if you knew from the beginning how it would develop.
The ending just destroyed me hard.

Four stars
I have mixed feelings on this one, I've given it four stars but I could have just as easily gone with 5 or 3.
The writing is beutiful, of that there is no doubt. It's an atmospheric book with all the right vibes. The premise and opening is powerful and cool, it's sucks you in. My instinct is to give this book 5 stars and say it's brilliant.
However, the more I think about it, the more I feel like this book is style over substance. I donr know if I'll actually be thinking back on this story in a few days time. I soon know what tartt was trying to say or explore, and the more I think about it the more I feel she didn't know either. I have nothing against long books and I don't nessacarily think the book should have ended with bunny's death, but to me the 300 more pages afterwards weren't used wisely. It's like the author wanted to be literary and really say something but stumbled around it and couldn't quite hit on what that thing was.
Overall I enjoyed the expiernce of reading it but the more I think about this book, the less I like it. What even was Franciss charachter traits besides being gay??? Or charles besides being incestuous and a drunk???
Like it's rich snobby charachters, maybe this book is more style over substance..
