I wanted to rate it higher, but there's one thing that had been bothering me since we found out who the narrator was, how does Hoid know every little thing about what Tress and the others are doing when hes not around? how does he know Tress' thoughts?

I hoped these would have been answered, but unfortunately, we are left with no answers.
I say this with only having read the first of the mistborn Saga and now Tress, so if there are answers in other books, I'd love to know where to look :)

Outside of this I really enjoyed the book! I loved the characters in particular Fort and Hoid, and of course Huck.
There were quite a lot of funny moments but also moments that I could relate to!

Tress of the emerald sea is such a whimsical book, filled with adventure, finding oneself, overcoming fears and obstacles, and finding family in those who aren't related by blood.

Definitely worth picking up!

Such a cozy story. I enjoyed Hoid narration very much, he is absolutely funny.

3.5 stars. Loved: third person narrator who is also a character in the story, “Lemony Snicket” atmosphere, seamless world-building early on. Didn’t love: some of the “science” got confusing and distracting and I knew where it was going way too early.

Really enjoyed this whimsical, creative take on A Princess Bride-esque fairytale. Tress is relatable, easy to cheer for, and I adore her penchant for cups. Other highlights included the spore seas, Tress's parents, and the narration (give me all the witticisms, I'm a fan). This was my first Sanderson book in a long time and I found it a good place to start getting into his work (though I imagine it would be fun to read again once I've read more of the Cosmere). The only thing that left me unsatisfied was the ending, for some reason that I can't really figure out how to articulate. Despite my love for the fairytale genre, maybe I was just looking for a little more depth than it could offer.
