Oh how I loved Ramona when I was a little girl! I look forward to revisting her with my own children!

Reading this aloud to my 4 year old… I can definitely tell it was written in the 70s. I saw this on a list of recommended first chapter books, as my daughter is starting to become interested in chapter books, but I think a lot of it is too old for her and there are some really weird parts I’ve had to skip over… lots of bullying, a mean teacher, a few pages about “Jesus Beezus”, followed by a few pages about “taking the Lords name in vain”, and some time spent dedicated to Ramona complaining about how her “liberated” mom’s new part time job was inconvenient because she wouldn’t have time to make cookies and run errands

The girls and I also enjoyed listening to this on cd during one of our long trips in the car.

Another great addition to the series! This was one of my favorites as a kid as well - especially the dog incident. I thought Ramona was very smart to make herself a new shoe! Another great read for kids and adults!

Mrs. Cleary can remember what it's like to be a child better than any other writer. Ramona is brave, but when her pleasant but unimaginative teacher misunderstands her she can't tell anyone about the injustice, not even her loving parents. And her much-longed-for new bedroom is scary at night, and she can't confess that either. The interior lives of children are as complex as those of adults, even if their concerns may seem trivial to us. RIP

Hard to judge since I'm pretty far out of the target audience. But this one certainly captures when a person looks back at what first grade looks like. And the illustrations by [a:Jacqueline Rogers (Illustrator)|950215|Jacqueline Rogers (Illustrator)|https://www.goodreads.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-d9f6a4a5badfda0f69e70cc94d962125.png] are fantastic. Ramona is not nearly as difficult as she thinks she is. Definitely worth inflicting on your school age girls.
