— did i expect anything from this? no, so i’m not entirely disappointed. in fact i thought this was better than it’d be, and whilst reading about the origins of many hunger games traditions was interesting… i still don’t get why this book was written… there just was no point at all.
this book felt like a genuine fever dream and i hope in the future suzanne collins decided to write either a haymitch abernathy or a finnick odair origin story instead of one that brings nothing to the table.

Probably definitely giving this 4 stars only because of my love of The Hunger Games trilogy. If this was a standalone book it would probably be 2 stars from me.

It was boring and I didn’t connect with any of the characters except maybe one side character. Perhaps this is also because I watched the movie first and then read the book, but I feel like I didn’t gain any additional insight from reading, except realizing the extent to which Coriolanus was a self-serving kiss-ass.

The parts about the creation of some of the Hunger Games elements was interesting. Also, the songs Katniss sang.
