Not scary. No real climax. Waited and waited for the big reveal which never came. A big let down.

oh wow! the premise of this book was just amazing!! I remember being obsessed with lucid dream in middle school, so reading this feels like going back in time with my classmates talking about how it would be really cool to meet each other in one’s dream lol. annndd…. ofc it wasn’t as exciting as we ever thought. while the idea of controlling your dream sounds really cool, this book showed us how creepy that would be.

this book packed with a lot of stuff inside and I do think the author executed everything really well. we have dual pov here with back and forth timelines that kept me intrigued to know what will happen next and what had happened in the past. also don’t forget with some twist that you never thought will come.

oh and some people said that Amanda’s pov (our detective) wasn’t really necessary but I do think that her part gave us another interesting view to look forward.

I was incredibly excited to receive a copy of the audiobook. I LOVED the debut novel from Alex North, The Whisper Man. This meant I had really high expectations set for The Shadows.

Charlie Crabtree is a teen who has committed to what seems like a ritualistic murder. Paul Adams was his friend and also friends with the victim. He’s now older and left their hometown but when his mother falls ill he has to return home. She keeps insisting there’s something wrong with the house and things start to happen that bring Paul back to that day 25 years ago when not only was his friend murdered but Charlie also disappeared.

The narration was really good and kept my attention through the book. However, I maybe would’ve enjoyed the physical book over the audiobook version for this one just because of the number of characters to keep straight. I found that difficult over the audiobook but I’m also new to audiobooks so that may be part of the problem.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it but would suggest someone pick up the physical book over the audio. For me it wasn’t 5-stars like the whisper man which I thought about for days after finishing but it did come up close at a 4-star read for me.

Shoulder shrug. Eh. It was fine.

The plot was sad kids who totes would have watched Salad Fingers. And so they got bullied at school. Because they were fringe kids, they made up this imaginary villain that will right all their woes. Then one kid takes it too far and goes all V for Vendetta.

It's just a predictable plot. Hence the shoulder shrug.
