Dark as hell, beautiful and heartbreaking. Spectacular.
This book kicked my butt. It was so intense! Also beautifully written in parts. I found myself going back to re-read certain phrases because they sounded like poetry. I didn’t quite predict the ending. It was better than I expected considering the subject matter.
Wow, this book was dark. I'm not sure I liked the protagonist but I still liked the book.
Every part of this book I loved, from the characters, to the story, and the writing... Oh God, the writing! Throughout the entire book I didn't know if I was reading a book or pure poetry! The characters are so relatable and you can honestly believe the emotions that they're trying to convey through McGinnis' writing. Yes this book is raw, dark, gritty, and probably shouldn't be read by someone under the age of sixteen, but it's that rawness of everyday life (because let's face it, this shit can and does happen, often) that makes you want to read it.
And most of all
And most of all
Spoiler
you want the "bad guy" to win, you want her to have a happy ending. Probably because all the people she killed deserved it by being even worse than her. Alex isn't really bad as she is a girl with anger issues who loves animals and doesn't know how to really interact with people her own age because of this... God, she's me at that age, no wonder I love her so much. I wanted her to have a happy ending, I wanted everyone to have a happy ending. Except Branley, because it's all her bloody fault. Sure we get one moment of feeling bad for her and she did almost get raped, but who dresses up in only lingerie and goes into the woods that is filled with known druggies, who tried to rape another girl btw, to seduce her ex(?) and thinks it's a goo idea? Your bloody fault Branley! Give me back my violent, animal loving cinnamon roll!
third review: third time reading this book and the ending still manages to hit like a punch in the throat.
second review: this book is so powerful and heartbreaking. all of the characters are so well written and complex and dynamic and i love them. alex is such a good character, i really love anti-heros they're so thought-provoking and real. i feel really heartbroken rn I'm ngl.

I don't even know where to begin with this book. Mindy McGinnis made me life, gasp, and ripped my whole damn heart out with the stories of Peekay, Alex, and Jack. I would recommend this to everyone and read it again in a heartbeat. Captivating and raw. it also brings to the table some important issues with rape culture and slut-shaming. Amazing.
A difficult read but an important one.
There are trigger warnings that come with this book since it deals with rape culture, cruelty to animals, violence, death, so tread with caution.

This one is so good, I read it twice in a row. Dark and deep. A bit Dexter, a bit romance.
