Disappointingly terrible. The characters weren't fleshed out and had no chemistry, the writing was poor and needed an editor, and the world building was almost non existent. I also could have done without reading another shitty romantasy in which the threat of sexual assault is constantly hanging over the heads of female characters. I almost DNFed this multiple times and found myself skim reading to get through it - the only thing stopping me was the fact I'm behind on my reading challenge.

It's neither bad or good. If you want an book filled with sex scenes (nothing revolutionary) with a mermaid then this is your book. Other than that this book is meh.
The magic world is barely developed. The mermaids are one dimensional: one is curious, one is a fighter bitch, and our dear Arielle is the self-sacrificing one. The characters do not involve with the story they stay as they are. Same for the prince he is a dick at the beginning and a dick at the end.
Finally, the love story is non existence. Do not read this book if u want romance đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł. I am a hoe for ALL ROMANCE TROPES cheesy and uncheesy (except a selected few). So I dnt mind soul mate/ love at first sight. But these two characters are not in love. There is nothing in the book that shows they love each other. Arielle speaks of mating like a duty and Eryx wants to fuck her basically. It starts like that and end like that and I'm suppose to believe that are in love cause they know through their mating bond. Like bitch plz!
The sex scenes are meh 😐. Personally I didn't like them. They happen whenever they are abt to have a real conversation and Eryx speaks like he is in a cheap porno. The ending was also a big meh like the author included too many plots and chose the easy way out.
Anyhow I started reading this book cause I LOVER TO KILL A KINGDOM. I loved that retelling so MUCH! I also loved the story line of the mermaid and the priest in PIRATE OF THE CARIBBEAN and when I looked for some recommendations this one came out. If you like either of these two I cn tell u, u wnt like this book.

I knew that The Hunted was no longer a part of the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection, but I was still curious about it and when I saw that it was going to be a re-telling of The Little Mermaid, I was like, “Sign me up!” I’ve never read Bethany-Kris before, so I didn’t know what to expect and there were times that my nerves got to me for awhile there, but I really loved The Hunted! I was completely involved in Arelle and Eryx’s story — it frustrated me at times, made my heart ache, and I was wholeheartedly rooting for this pair to get together. It was fantastic and the world Bethany-Kris created was so interesting, I really enjoyed being a part of it and I’ll definitely read any other books that come after this one!

More than well-deserved 5 stars.

I really loved the originality in this version of the tale of The Little Mermaid.
The angst.
The sensuality.
The world-building.
The writing.
The clear and vivid picture the author's writing delivered.
I couldn't stop reading. I couldn't look away. There was no part of this story I thought negatively about. There was no fillers. Everything was needed, everything built up to what needed to happen. Everything glowed. It was literal movie in my head. It's been a while since that happened. Well done, new-to-me author Bethany-Kris.

It's definitely a different then what your expecting going in to the story. It's an interesting take on mermaid fairytale and it completely worked.

The author did a great job cultivating the characters and the story flowed really well.

I loved how instant the mating bond was and the chemistry between Arelle and Eryx was so steamy it could make your toes curl.

Highly recommend.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

To be honest going into this book I was a bit skeptical. After the first chapter I didn’t know if I wanted to continue or not. But am glad I stuck with it.
I didn’t read the blurb, only knew it was about a mermaid and was written by Bethany-Kris. I tend to enjoy all of her books so I thought why not.
I found myself engrossed in the story and couldn’t put the book down (after I got past the first little bit) it was definitely not what I expected. I would definitely recommend it. It’s not a sweet Disney romance. Although it does have a princess and a prince.
I hope she writes more because at the end I wasn’t ready for it to be over. I wanted more. I wanted to know what was next did they take to the sea or the land or what about the rest of them??????
