Trying to get into the Discworld and I loved this book!  It was equal parts charming (funny and clever) and challenging (how the world works versus how it could/should work).  The characters are vibrant and distinct, the world building fantastic, the magic system hilarious...  I'm looking forward to making my way through the series.

I was expecting the story to focus on Esk’s time at Unseen University as a student, but it’s all about her journey to get there, and I enjoyed it a lot more for that. The horror elements were also a bit unexpected!

This has been my least favorite of the series so far, though I did still enjoy it. I found the first half to be a bit boring and slow, and had I not been determined to read all of Discworld I may have DNF'd it. However, the second half picked up in a big way, and the charm and fun I've come to expect from Pratchett's work reappeared. I look forward to seeing Granny again in later books.

This is definitely the weakest Discworld book I've read so far. It certainly isn't bad. It just feels like it's teetering on the edge of being brilliant.

I'm probably going to be taken out the back and shot for this, but I really don't like Granny Weatherwax.

I much preferred Esk and I was hoping the book would Be more focused on her. From what I can tell the rest of the witches collection isnt based in her at all and it's all about Granny.

I did like the overall message. I liked how sexism is addressed very directly. If I was a young girl (I say at a 20-something-year-old man) I feel it would have influenced me in a great way.
