I learned so much from this study. James really hits you hard with things you don't necessarily want to think about, but it changes you for the better if you allow it. Beth Moore has a way with presenting James' book of the bible that adds to the very powerful message James presents about living your faith, faith without works being dead and mercy triumphing over judgment without watering it down. She really lets the full impact of his bluntness strike you and demand you to look at how you think and act. I would recommend this study highly.

A lot of scripture is used out of context and the tone of this book seemed very arrogant to me. Lots of attempted “humble bragging.” She makes a lot of assumptions about what James is saying in between the lines instead of just stating what it means. Not a fan of this book at all.

In-depth, as always. Intriguing historical information, as always. The joint writing and recording with her daughter in the video sessions made it more interactive than just Beth with an audience.

A lot of typos. Some sections were hard to follow if you didn't have her exact translation. I dislike studies that lean heavily on building lessons on the importance of one English word. Every lesson was not like that, so I still liked the book.

Superficial. She manages to avoid all the important moral teachings in James. I am glad that I wrote out all of James in my own handwriting though.

I always love how Beth puts things together that you never would have recognized ❤️
This study, of course focused on James, the brother of Jesus. The first week introduces you to James and see his journey with Jesus (he was not a believer until Jesus was resurrected). Then you spend 5 weeks studying the 5 chapter book of James, concluding with a week of what happened to James and his ministry.
I loved Melissa’s question at the end, “Does the way you live remind someone of Jesus?” Because the way James lived, he embodied the life and wisdom of Jesus. He wanted believers to show their faith through the way they live.
