Without a doubt one of the best and funniest books I've ever read. Yes, the protagonist is unlikeable, but she's also manically entertaining and wonderfully (and uniquely!) idiosyncratic. There are passages in here I have reread 30 times because they make me laugh every time. Outstanding!!

Young woman ascribes to the religion of a singular novel, goes a little crazy. Frees a kept animal from captivity. Haven't we all?
exclamation points in the title, absurd humor, and a main character hell bent on living boldly. reading this is like gazing into a mirror
Reading this book was sort of like reading something by Augusten Burroughs...but not true, or interesting. I never felt like I understood what was going on with the main character, but I knew I didn’t like her. Lots of slightly gross stuff happened with a pet parrot. Overall this book made me slightly confused and vaguely icky.
Satire about a sociopathic twentysomething slacker, a part-time employee at a pet library, who becomes obsessed with the children's book Treasure Island and tries to live by its code of BOLDNESS, RESOLUTION, INDEPENDENCE, and HORN-BLOWING.
I loved the beginning of this, but I think I was just expecting something different. Too much cringe and not enough forward movement for me.
Zam! Pow! This book begins like firecrackers. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the book I read about that was praised by David Sedaris. There is that quality to the snarky humor. By the end, the narrator, whose comedy is of the sort that shows what a horrible person she is, has worn a bit thin. I would not want to know this person in real life. But for a short book, the zany characters and absurdist situations are comic gold.
