I went into this knowing (from reviews) that the protagonist is an unlikable selfish slacker, but I really liked it because of the well-executed point of view, and because while reading I laughed out loud so many times. It gets really zany.
The book is titled after the classic adventure book because the protagonist likes to quote from it. She uses parts of Treasure Island to back up her actions, but the book is not really a catalyst for the trouble that happens, the protagonist's own obnoxiousness is what does it. The Treasure Island quotes just add humor.
By the way, I think the idea of a pet library (where you check out pets) is a horrible idea!!!

I found this book intriguing from the beginning, and that is part of why I picked it up (not going to lie, the other part was how small it was, reading long books is hard these days!) but it lost it's intrigue through the readtime. I think the intention from the author was to not waste time on explanations, but it eventually got old and I wanted to understand more of why the main character was so INSANE?! she was crazy!! and she kept doing awful things to people that cared about her. I never felt like she learned her lesson, and she was borderline sociopathic in her behaviors.
Sometimes I love a book where very little happens and it's a slice of life, a peek into someone's everyday craziness. this is not one of those times

Odd, dark, and sick, in a positive sense. So easy to mine a book for meaning and find exactly what you want it to say.
I’ll be rereading this tomorrow, and possibly for the rest of my life. As “Treasure Island” is to unnamed protagonist, so “Treasure Island!!!” is to me.

Funny, with a main character so un-self-aware and self-absorbed you almost can't believe it, bit in Levine's hands you do.
I was hoping that this book would be as funny as the description in Library Journal suggested. Instead, it was flat. The heroine is psychotically obsessed with the book, Treasure Island (and herself). She uses this book as an excuse to ruin or at least significantly damage the lives of everyone around her. The rest of the characters wind up being weak willed or overindulgent of her or just plain unlikeable. Far from being funny, the book winds up being depressing. There is no real resolution to the build up her ever more bizarre behavior. I'd give this one a pass.
