I loved the cover of this book so much that I had to check it out. I also really enjoyed The Last Mapmaker by the same author recently so I figured I would love the writing as well. It is skewed a little younger but definitely worth picking up. It’s a cute little book filled with magic and heart. The kind of book where you find yourself smiling while you read it. The story centres around Plum who has quite the talent for gardening and with animals. It’s almost as if she can communicate with them. She is surprised to find out she has been accepted to train as a Guardian and is whisked away on an adventure to see if she has what it takes.

I really enjoyed the writing and found myself easily immersed in the scenes being set. I loved the illustrations throughout as well. I enjoyed the whole concept of Guardians and how they are charged with protecting nature and their communities. The idea that they would connect with themselves and the magic within themselves through training and mediation was great as well. I was definitely rooting for Plum and appreciated that Sam was able to help her really connect to what mattered to her and shift into her Guardian form.

I am really looking forward to reading more and luckily the author just posted the next book will be out later this year. Definitely recommend this book and others by the author!
