You know that kind of insane video of the ripped guy submerging his head into cold spring water? Reading this story collection felt like giving my brain a similar polar plunge. Maybe my brain needed something completely bat shit crazy right now and this book has no shortage of that.
I haven't touched Junji Ito since like high school and completely forgot how detailed and terrifying his drawing style is. These stories are all the perfect length - just enough time for Ito to drunkenly scribble "what if a tomb sprouted from your body when you died?", take that idea to its most absurd conclusion, and then immediately end the story.
The quality of stories varied quite a bit in this collection, but when they hit oh mannnn do they hit!
