Another of Tom Clancy's hard to put down novels featuring John Clark and Ding Chavez. They put together a small, hard-hitting, well-trained, fast-strike force (Rainbow) to help combat terrorism around the world. Lots of action, interesting plot twists, and fun little sidetrips from time to time. If you liked Without Remorse, this is another you will enjoy.
Racism on Page 7? I don't want to know what's in the rest of the 890 pages.
Tom Clancy books were a familiar fixture in our household when I was growing up, and as I grew older and went looking for more ‘interesting’ things to read, Mr. Clancy was amongst the first ‘adult’ reads that I gravitated to. I read everything he had written up to that point, and then through the years I kept up with each new release. It has been many years since I last read the series as a whole, but over the past few months have found myself exploring them again.
My mother has been in and out of hospital over the past 6 months- and being an avid reader, I gave her a Kindle so she would have something to read while she was recuperating. Mum loves Tom Clancy, he’s among her favourite authors, so I suggested reading this series as a buddy read- but, on the days she isn’t well enough to read for herself, I read them to her. We love to discuss the details of the books after each read and even though we’ve both read the series before, it has been just as enjoyable this time around. It’s also been a great bonding experience for us, and we have really enjoyed revisiting Mr. Clancy’s work.
Jack Ryan is an analyst for the CIA and even though he isn’t the typical James Bond type action hero, he’s just as successful. Jack is more the outsmart/out think the enemy type of hero and the situations he finds himself in are quite compelling to read. I love all the different Jack Ryan stories- they all manage to keep me interested in what is going on and completely invested in the outcome. There is always intrigue, suspense, a little mystery, drama, interesting and fully realised characters, a complex and well-developed plot with clever twists- which all blend together to produce a memorable read.
I can always count on Mr. Clancy and Jack Ryan to take me on an adventure that never gets old, no matter the situations or how many times I’ve read these books.

I like the John Clark character and aside from the...well, OK, I guess the premise wasn't as over-the-top as what happened at the end of Debt of Honor, so yeah, I liked this book OK. As despictable as John Killgore's actions were, he was pretty likeable, as was Popov.

This was a re-read and still good the second time around. Unusual, as it is one of the rare books where Jack Ryan is not the main character. John Clark is not as black and white and makes for an interesting character. There is the usual body count and a lot of gadgets, all in all a solid thriller.
5/5 Where to start on this one, phew. What a hefty book that was. Oh my god, its massive. Lets start with saying, no its not the longest book I have read this year, but this is the first paperback thing length that I've read. Phew. Each page filled to the brim with words, and it is a challange I am happy I overtook, but I wouldn't read another book in this series. Let's start eith what I Tom Clancy has a very interesting writing style to say the least. I feel like this story could have been more gripping if it was a little faster paced in the begining and throughout the first ⅔ of the book. I absolutly adored the little nics nacs that Clancy provided us with throughout the story, every little descriptive and usually gudgemental word that comes out of a character's mind before he takes action or while speaking to another character is pure gold. I loved the descriptive aspect of the book in some parts more than others, but it just works! The entire storyline is very interesting and the way it is layed out could have been a little more spread out. Also, the storyline of the tv show Utopia may have taken inspiration from it. Dr. Blu was probably my favorite character and the hostage negotiation part with the IRA was the most thrilling part of the book for me.
Good book with some great action scenes (ie, the amusement park), but I'm scarred for having chosen a 900 page book to write an 8th grade book report on. Shame on me.
