I know that I’m in the minority with this review but The Taking of Annie Thorne was quite mediocre for me, at best. Now, I will preface this by saying that I do enjoy CJ Tudor’s work-I recently read The Drift and compulsively ingested every page with greed. This one reminded me of a lot of thriller’s that fail to grasp my attention. The plot got confused and the sequence of events didn’t completely hold up for me. The writing was good, I just felt that the execution wasn’t as strong as it could’ve been.
Do you remember your high school years? Yeah, same, it’s a time I don’t really wish to look back on. It was full of hormones, angst and bucketloads of stress. Teenagers would do anything to fit in, and I do mean anything. Stupid initiations, bullying people that you have no beef with, and threats if you don’t. It is a never ending clusterfuck of emotions. Joe Thorne knows these feelings only too well. He’s been the but end of the bullies fist one too many times and now that he has been taken into Hurst’s gang, he’s eletated but also torn.
Joe has a close relationship with his little sister, Annie. Unlike many sibling relationships, he dotes on her, and nothing is too much effort for her. When he starts hanging around with Hurst and his cronies, his relationship with Annie suffers. When they head up to the old colliery site that his father used to work at, Annie follows him and things go from bad to worse, and then to absolutely fucking disastrous.
I felt some questions weren’t answered, like when Annie came back what exactly HAD happened to her? I don’t think that was answered or touched on at the end. I felt frustrated that that point hadn’t had a satisfactory ending.

I LOVE CJ TUDOR SO MUCH! Man oh man. I found chalk man and LOVED it. So when I found out about this one, I pre-ordered it. It was darker than Chalk Man but it was great. Can't wait for her next one.

A good read but very strange. The supernatural side of things didn't make much sense and wasn't explained very well, I feel like that side of things could have been more in-depth.
