I wanted to read this book because I have seen this book all over the book community and it was on the buy one get one half price at Waterstones and couldn’t resist. This book was so adorable and warm, and I cannot wait to read the next one.

This book is based on Viv the orc barbarian and after decade of adventuring she is finally hanging up her sword for good and she has set sights on a new dream. She plans to open the first coffee shop in the city of Thune. Even though no one there knows what coffee actually is. If Viv wants to put the past behind her, she can’t go it alone. And help might arrive from unexpected quarters. Yet old rivals and new stand in the way of her success. And Thune’s shady underbelly could make it all too easy for Viv to take up the blade once more. But the true reward of the uncharted path is the travellers you meet along the way. Whether bound by ancient magic, delicious pastries or a freshly brewed cup, they may become something deeper than Viv ever could have imagined.

This storyline was so cute, and cozy and I just wanted to jump into this world and hug Viv multiple times. I love the themes that are in this book – the found family, the LBGT representation and the females being kick-ass. I love the character development within this book and how Viv grew with confident as the book went on. I liked how basic the fantasy was and would recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t know if they will like fantasy or not. Even though this is the cosy vibes and coffee is one of the main focuses on the book – there is a serious storyline in the background that you can feel building and building until it comes to a point. I was so shocked at the storyline and how it ended.

I would have liked the side characters to have a bit more depth to them but the fact that this is a debut book, it didn’t feel like one. I cannot wait to see what’s in store, and I’ve already pre-ordered the paperback version of the next book.

I loved this book!!! Its a low-stakes novel and the romance is wonderfully balanced with the plot itself. The characters are lovable and the villains aren't, and I can't wait to start the prequel Bookshops and Bonedust.

I've felt the need to read this book for months but I was waiting for 'the right moment' and it was everything it promised to be.
I love the pace of it, how we are witness of Viv's eagerness for a new start, a more peaceful life and how she makes that life for herself.
Also the setting is a café, what is better than a cosy fantasy set in a café ? probably nothing.
The cosy aspect was everything, I felt like I was sitting in front of a huge cinnamon roll with a warm latte and friends around me.
I can only recommend it for those long days when you look at the rain falling through the window while you take a warm bath or cuddle in a sofa with a blanket and a mug of hot chocolate !
