Fantastic read, would recommend anyone who's ever read the original and thought "nick's kinda gay".

Where it could have been silly (and I was expecting a little silliness) it was insightful, well thought-out and it made me love characters I've disliked for years.

TW ; it's set in the 1920's , so some racism and queerphobia present, mentioned on the coverpage too.

Fun and light. I wasn't super engaged, but I think that's a me problem and not a problem with the book. I do think some of the extra added subplots were a little unnecessary, but they weren't too distracting.

I love how this book used the original as a basis but added it's own spin. My favorite instance of this was Nick's name. Because he is Mexican-American his last name is Caraveo. However his (racist) boss calls him Caraway.
The way that the author made the characters fit to the original but also not was amazing! I highly recommend this to anyone who thought that the original novel should've ended with Nick and Jay ending up together!
