I’ve been very intrigued by the Sylvia Likens case since I saw “An American Crime” several years ago. The movie did a wonderful job of intermingling the court case with the events of the crime. This book does the opposite of that. The beginning is very interesting and really gets your attention by explaining everything that happened to Sylvia. It’s a true tragedy. However, the second half of the book was a monotonous march through the legal system and the court case. I had to skim most of it. There were far too many minute details and entire chapters dedicated to very small events in the courtroom. It really sucked the life out of the book. Recommended for people that like seriously detailed court cases and true crime fanatics.

A fairly well written account of the murder of a child in Indiana.

So I actually have seen a documentary about the story among other things and I really did like the way this book told the story. And the other things that I’ve heard and seen about what happened there were some things that were conflicting to with the book said so it’s kind of like it was the book right or were these other things right but I guess I’ll never know that answer. Regardless what happened was just horrible and I can’t believe that so many people were involved and didn’t do anything. It just really makes you question peoples ability to care for another living human being or give a crap about what’s happening to someone.
