I officially hate this book. I can’t exactly describe why. It might be because it is in second person but wow it’s just super off-putting. Changez also says that he’s quiet and everyone says that he’s quiet except he spends about two thousand hours boring an American in Lahore to death which is annoying.

Update: I just learned about the cool allegories in the book so I guess I appreciate it a bit more so yeah. i give it a reluctant 1.25 stars.

Update #2: I watched the movie and I like it a little better now even though it's a lot more different from the book.

The narration was really good, switching between the past and present very naturally. (no spoilers)... THE ENDING WAS FANTASTIC

Its quite an intelligent little thriller in the guise of a romance-esque novel. The internal struggles of a man from the once great ancient East, striving for the status and luxury of the modern west, while struggling with his twisting loyalties, unrequited feelings and hypocrisy. All against the simultaneous backdrops of an innocent cafe conversation and the tension and lingering unease of a meeting you'd find in a James Bond novel. A Masterfully crafted plot which would be so much more brilliant if the language and the characters didn't seem a little cliched and cookie-cutter.

I'm not sure yet how I felt about this book. Definitely one that needs a bit of thinking time!

What a great book! I had no idea that this was a conversation completely from the main character's point of view. What a fresh way to hear a story. I loved hearing the story from his eyes and perspective. It was a quick read, but really hit a chord with me. Loved it.
