I had to read this book for class tomorrow and unfortunately, I forgot it here in Fribourg, so with my being home during the weekend, I didn't have too much time to read it. Fortunately, it is an incredibly great book that you can read in one sitting.

I would recommend it to everyone that is interested in what's happening around the world, and after this horrible election cycle, it has more importance than ever!

Amazing writing style and generally really good plot arc! The name metaphors were super on the nose, and I'm glad that I read this book for a book club so we could have a great discussion. Definitely an easy and short read about an immigrant's story and shifting perception of the country post-9/11.

one of the most astonishing books i've read in a long time. I want to say it's a must read for anyone who has ever wondered about U.S. foreign policy... Or someone who has ever known the child of an immigrant... Or someone who lived through 9/11... Or someone who likes tea.

I definitely enjoyed this book, although going through the experiences of the main character was a bit painful.
The contrast of the character as an American versus as a Muslim was interesting... not only did he lead 2 very different lives, but his voice as the narrator is quite different.

I am so confused about this book. I loved Esther and her story, if the book was about her I defenitly would've liked it more but the mc was just confusing. I didn't like at al how he tried to justify 9/11 although I also understand how he felt for being blamed for something he didn't decide. Also the pov was kinda cool and kinda confusing. It is well written with beautiful quotes what still made me enjoy it for some parts.

Way too depressing. Forced myself to finish reading it.

I've read three of Hamid's books including this one (also How to Get Filthy Rich, and Exit West). In some ways this was my least favorite reading experience, but it has stuck with me since I read it. The stylistic writing is both obviously contrived and meant to feel so. A book for discussion, not for enjoyment.

I don’t know why I gave it 3 stars initially. Great book!
