The first 200 pages weren't nearly as riveting as the pages that followed, but what kept me reading the first part of the book was the nuanced psychology of the the main characters and the gritty portrayal of married life. Granted, after page 200, readers discover the motivations of a truly sinister mind, which refocuses all we thought we knew.

What also kept me reading was the idea of what we "think" we know based on observation and what really happens. In this world flooded with information, we all think we know the truth about a lot of situations. The characters in this book remind me that's not always the case.

God I love this story so much. It took me too long to pick this up (nearly a decade after seeing the movie adaptation completely blind), and it was a thrilling delight.
