I love his style no matter what book it is - his voice is on point. I did enjoy the story in this one; it just wasn't as mesmerizing as some of his other works.

This was alright. It was beautifully written, and the passages were like little bits of beautiful marzipan candies. But marzipan doesn't taste that good, you know? Beautifully written book that just didn't really grab me.

If I'm being honest, I probably wouldn't have gotten through this if it wasn't required reading for my English class. That said, I'm really glad I DID get through it, because the last chapter or so of the book was by far the best part. Overall, not the kind of book I really enjoy, since it consists almost entirely of descriptions and minimal dialogue, but the story was touching and horribly sad, so if you're into a narrative writing style with a lot of flashbacks and memories, then I recommend giving this a shot!

Well written. A story of growth, life, and exploration that doesn't take a traditional path, but is still a relatable experience.

Smoothly and easily written. Lovely ending. Just nothing that really stood out for me. An easy way to pass the time.

A story of a young adult trying to come to some acceptance with his elderly father. McCann's sentences are pure poetry. The book would be delightful for anyone but those who believe a word should mean precisely what it has always meant. Those who are willing to stretch words would love it.
