Was really hard to get into and didn't finish it in time for book club. Had to read the synopsis, and the ending seemed more interesting than what i read.

Not for me.

This essentially starts as posh Die Hard (emphasis on the posh). I thought every character was vapid and unlikeable, I couldn’t engage with the constant conversations (then this person said, then that person said) and the main character Mr Hosokawa was insufferable. Each anecdote to drive home his character and motivations made me like him even less.

The book was a very slow start, and it made me want to stop reading for a while. It finally picks up in the latter third of the book, where the relationships of the characters are more developed.
