Oh I straight up loved Riv and Lauren. Their interactions, their differing personalities, their coming to understand one another and their relationship progressing. I loved their love story. I look forward to more books by this author.

Ok, glad it wasn't insta-love but some things didn't jive well.

Second read: Not a match for me at all.

- I wasn’t a fan of the pacing. It takes more than half the book for her to be able to start communicating
- Author tries to build sexual tension between both of them before then but it REALLY didn’t work for me
- By the time we finish this plodding first half, there’s very little time left to develop the ACTUAL ROMANCE, which is you know, kind of the point.

The book masquerades as something cute and sweet but at its heart it’s a pretty damn dark story. The level of violence and triggering stuff that happens in this book is unbelievable. Having the evil alien bad guy kill a moth and child in the market is NOT necessary to convince me he’s bad. Why is this here?? The hero has also been through one thing after another — was sold as a slave by his mother, had his body mutilated, was sexually assaulted more than once.

One of my favorite alien romance books. None have compared so far. The relationship building the way it did felt so realistic. I also love the planet that Wilde created. I can picture everything so perfectly in my mind.

It is a slow-burn alien romance but I liked it. I did wince slightly during their first time. Other alien romances make commendations for the size (wink, wink) differences, but I still like the book. I actually like the FMC, she didn't cry all the time and she handle all situations when they came up.

Well, this has never happened before. This was a solid 4 ⭐ read for me...up until the sexy times. In a word, cringy. I'm not sure if it was my mood, or the use of words that creep me out, like "cream", but it was weird.

Other than that, I enjoyed the story quite a bit. Some reviews on here complained that once she was at the sanctuary, it was slow and there was too much character introspection. Other reviews complained that Riv went from hate to insta-love in a minute. Well, which is it? Just right. That's where. His progression as he worked through his past trauma was interesting and heartbreaking. At first I was starting to get irritated with his attitude...and then we find out that there's a perfectly logical explanation.

I doubt I'll read the next in the series, although I would like some closure with Riv's brother and neighbor.
