It's good but not his best. I think I prefer the story on the characters home turf best.

One of the best imitations of Parker's writing that I've read. There are others so bad that I quit part way through the book, but Atkins has done a pretty good job of following in Parker's tradition of Spenser, the literate detective. Formulaic, but the formula is one I like.

Spenser is in CA to find the daughter of a Boston woman. He does and in the process stirs up a hornet’s nest!

Just your typical Spenser tale, if a little lighter on inner conflict.

Although I love the Quinn Colson series by Atkins, his attempt to re-create Spenser leaves me cold. Not that I'm surprised because he isn't Parker so his books are just rough approximations. To quote Lord Peter Wimsey "I loathe aliases. Like another fellow's clothes, you know - never seem quite to fit." While they are decent stories, Atkins' dialogue just doesn't quite fit this resurrected Spenser.
