Xavian, the male lead, is a very successful financial adviser with a certain reputation, partially because his ex-friend wrote a book that implied he was not a nice person. Corrine, the female lead, needs access to her trust that her brother is the trustee for to expand her very successful business but he doesn’t agree with her career choices and is refusing. Corrine approaches Xavian to ask for his help with the reward being revenge on her brother. Xavian is initially all in but then he starts to want more than revenge, something that looks an awful lot like love and a lifetime together…

This story is mostly male lead POV, well written, and a fast paced fake relationship romance. I enjoyed Corrine’s character development, as she moved past being a doormat to standing up for herself, though she remained gentle. I enjoyed Xavian’s character development, as he learned to care for someone other than himself, and that he prioritised Corrine’s mental and financial health over his own goals. I enjoyed their (speedy) relationship development and their intimate scenes. I enjoyed that they worked together to give her brother his just desserts without descending to his level of pettiness.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What a mix of tropes! It is an enemies to lovers, and fake relationship romance. All of it comes with revenge. Xavian has a lot happening in his life and he is hell-bent on revenge. The relationship and dynamic between Xavian and Corinne is captivating. It has angst, drama, heartbreak, betrayal and heat. Each pack a punch in a different way. I love reading how this plot unfolded.

I’m always hesitant to read a book that starts in the middle of a series. This is book 8 in this series (all stand alones but all within the same family) but had all the tropes I love. So this books follows Xavian (who is in the family this series follows) and Corinne (who is Xavian’s ex-best friends sister). They come up with a scheme that gets them both what they want but that means they need to be in a fake relationship for a while. I loved the development of Xavian’s feels for her as the book goes on. The whole book (minus half a chapter) is told from his point of view so we really never get to see in Corinne’s head until the end. I don’t enjoy him during the negotiation phase but he does get better. Because this is book 8, there is so much other stuff from the other characters that didn’t give much back story as to what has happened with them, so if you want the full picture, you should read all the books.
