This one was a bit tenser for me - you could see series characters making choices that were going to make life way more complicated in the long run ... and that's what pans out, though the complications are angled in different ways given the resolution of the plot. There are really two plots: one in England and one in Italy, and they mostly intersect through the main characters whose lives are changed by both plots forever.

A stellar installment of this series! Added bonus of a fresh setting in Italy. Griffiths is a terrific mystery writer and I just love coming back to these characters.

In The Dark Angel - the 10th in the Dr. Ruth Galloway series - Ruth is invited to Italy by an old friend, Professor Angelo Morelli, to investigate an excavation of a skeleton.
Accompanied by daughter Kate and friend Shona, Ruth soon finds herself caught up in secrets from the past and a present day murder.
As usual, Elly Griffiths gradually weaves a  story, with several different strands, building the tension towards a satisfying conclusion.

I was a bit skeptical of a “destination” installment of this series, but I ended up really liking this one.

I loved the new setting and lots of character developments, but the case in this book could have been better.
