My favorite series from an incredible writer!! Another Lee Child recommendation led me to him and all his series are wonderful. The Harry Tate series is incredible and Lucas Rocco is exceptional! Cruxys Solutions are pure suspense and Gavin and Palmer are gritty and full of menace.

Marc Portman (probably not his real name) is a watcher. A mercenary with no particular national affiliation, his job is to protect without being seen. After he walks into (and handles) a particularly nasty situation in Colombia, he becomes known to a British MI6 agent named Tom Vale.

Vale hires Portman to watch over a job in Somalia. The problem with having a "watcher" as your main character is that it makes for a pretty dull story of he just watches. Things spiral out of control quickly and Portman jumps into the fray.

The mix of action and tension works very well in this book. Portman might be a little too perfect, but the story works anyway. A solid 4 stars.
