Excellent. Engaging, fully developed female characters who stood on their own - I noticed that rarely (if ever) did any of the women have to be "saved" by a man during any of their adventures. Thank you for that!

Story was OK, but pretty slow for the first half. I kept finding myself struggling to follow at parts, which was probably because I was listening instead of reading? My worst audiobook fear come true! Somewhere between 2.5 and 3 stars.

For the most part I enjoyed the story but it did start off a bit slow - I found the second half much more exciting than the first half. I greatly enjoyed the author's descriptions of the artwork and she painted the picture of Paris at the time very vividly, but the characters left me wishing for a bit more substance. Overall though an interesting read. Thank you Goodreads for the opportunity to win this book through a FirstReads Giveaway!

I got this book through a Goodreads giveaway and I must say that I really enjoyed it.

The novel paints a beautiful picture of Paris in the early 1900s (from its more gritty side all the way to its glamorous one) with lots of historical details woven into the plot.

The characters were very well-developed that you couldn't help but fall in love with them. The presence of strong (but likeable) female characters made me root for this novel as well.

This was an engrossing book...the plot really picks up as you continue to read. Though it was a little predictable, it's hard to say no to a novel that keeps your interest right up until the end.

What a challenge for the genre board, to pidgeon this book into a single thing. Elements of mystery, suspense, gothic. Fans of Westerman/Crowther (which should by rights be everyone) will find this a different story altogether, written with the same brisk, vibrant fluency but very different. Great read, a little slow-paced but the sense of urgency doesn't come from the timeline but from the events themselves. Such a fan of Imogen Robertson.

A beautiful read that fit the rainy day. It was atomspheric reading about the waters rising while it poured down raining. This book had everything I could ask for suspense, tension, powerful and thought out characters. And the plot wasn't half bad either. A new favorite.
