This new (back then) Captain America needs rescuing a lot.

And a whole lot of stuff that I’ve seen done to death elsewhere.

I actually liked this story. I can certainly see why a lot of readers didn't like it though. It is a story with deep current political opinions levied in every issue. However, I did enjoy this volume, and I do like that Sam isn't Steve Rogers. Rogers was idealistic, but times have changed, and in today's world, everyone has to take a side, and that is where Sam seems to struggle with being Captain America -- he doesn't believe that people will do the right thing all of the time.

The art was very good. The story telling was uneven. It was a little heavy on social and political issues. The humor was often flat or suffered from bad timing. It tried too hard to give a message. Tell a good story and the message will shine through. I was a big fan of Serpent Solutions. I'm a little surprised they put them on a plane.

When Sam Wilson takes over for Steve Rogers he is not met with the same admiration and respect. After a speech calling for unity on important political issues, such as immigration and protesting, our new captain America is labeled as a traitor and anti-American. Wilson states “the more I saw the people I believed I was standing up for being walked on the more I heard a noise machine spouting intolerance and fear, drowning common sense out.” This leads into conflict with S.H.I.E.L.D and even former cap Steve Rogers who deeply “believes that when the chips are down...his country will do what’s right.” Whereas Sam Wilson can only hope it will. This difference in experience is telling and reflects real life inequality.

This comic is needed in this political atmosphere now as much as it was when it was originally written. The themes of combating greed and hatred while being labeled as anti-American ring true to modern fighters of racism and inequality. The story was engaging, action packed, and tackled important topics in a readable way for all ages. Highly recommend!!

This was… fine? A lot of corporate stuff that I honestly didn’t care for, and with Sam being Cap-Wolf I felt like I didn’t really get to see him, which was a shame with this being my first Sam comic. A lot of exposition, it felt like just things being told instead of things happening. But I don’t think it was bad. It did what it did fairly well, it just wasn’t my favorite. Also why did Misty’s costume make it look like she belonged in a comic from the 70s? Really thought we were past that…
