This book was amazing, it was so well wrote that I was hooked from the very first chapter. I became totally engulfed in the story, as it is such a heart warming story and devastating in equal measures. There are so many twists in the story to keep you permanently on the edge of your seat. This page turning novel was just perfect and so factual I love learning history etc through fiction books. I really enjoyed the political element of this book concerning who has the right to keep the artifacts found on these sites and the controversy around this topic. I listened to the audio version and found that the narrator really added to the atmosphere and mystery of the book that I could not put down. The author wrote this book so well I know want to read more books by her as I binge read this book and I had it finished in no time. I'm really hoping this book gets made into a film as it would be perfect for the big screen. I thought it was great that the ending was so unexpected and the perfect way to end a book. I'm not going to tell you what happened for obvious reasons and I don't see the point in spoilers. So much praise to the author and publishing team for producing such a delightful story with such interesting novel full of history and culture.

I absolutely loved this! I knew a little bit about the discovery of Tutankhamun but I have definitely learnt new things reading this. The author has told a true story so beautifully and emotionally. I’m honestly at a loss for words but I just highly recommend this book!
Thank you Avon Books for my copy of this book

Lady Evelyn Herbert is the first person to step into King Tut's tomb when it is discovered in 1922. Along with her father and family friend, Howard Carter Evelyn sees firsthand the treasures that accompanied Tut into the ever after. After the opening of Tut's tomb, Evelyn receives a letter from a known spiritualist that there was a curse placed upon the tomb which states "they that shall break the seal of this tomb shall meet death by a disease no doctor can diagnose." Evelyn looks back on her time in Egypt when someone who works for the university in Cairo reaches out regarding missing items from the tomb and begins to wonder if all the tragedies in her life have been a direct result of Tut's curse.
Lady Evelyn Herbert was someone I had never heard of nor had I read anything surrounding the finding of the tomb of Tutankhamun. This was a well-researched story that I found myself drawn more and more into. I loved Eve's ability to recall her times in Cairo as well as other events in her life. Gill Paul has a talent for making the reader want to keep reading deep into the night. This was a book I greatly looked forward to and am so glad that I read it - it will be one I buy for my shelves.

An historical novel that goes between the 1920s and the 1970s. A loving couple, a stranger, a history that goes to Egypt. What more do I need to say. This was a sweet and mysterious read.

I love a book that sends me to google. About mid way through this story of Eve and her role in the discovery of King Tut's tomb, I was looking up names and pictures to get a better view of what really went down when the tomb was uncovered. I love when the bones of a story is real, but the details are fiction. It is such a good gateway to learning more about a time in history. I read a lot of HF, but this setting just drew me in and kept me reading. The intrigue behind the curse rumors, the idea of the relationships between the people at the site and the dual time line were compelling and exciting to read about. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review!
2.5…but regardless just did not do it for me. The book was too long and then suddenly just ended really. And I wasn’t fond of most characters either.
