A cozy Christmas mystery that kept me entertained…and had me stumped! A quick read set in England between the wars. This is part of a large series but not having read the others didn’t seem to matter.

Another fun Carola Dunn mystery with the delightful Daisy Dalrymple. Daisy is celebrating Christmas 1923 with her husband Alec, a detective with Scotland Yard, and stepdaughter at the estate of a distant cousin in Cornwall. Unfortuantely, Daisy can’t go anywhere without a dead body showing up. In this case, it’s a minister who takes offense at everything and winds up dead in an old dilapidated chapel on Christmas Eve. With multiple suspects some of whom you can’t help but dislike, an old family mystery, and Dunn’s characteristic humor, this cozy mystery drew me in and was a fun enjoyable listen on a snowy day.

I love the narrator of these mysteries. She captures the personalities of each of the characters so well and I enjoy the way she voices each character particularly Daisy and Alec. Dunn puts in all the popular slang from the 1920’s and this made the time period really come to life.

Though this is the eleventh book in the series, it could definitely be read as a stand alone. However, after reading all the previous books, it’s fun to see Daisy and Alec as a married couple and seeing their continually blossoming relationship. Definitely recommend to cozy mystery fans. 3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4.

A well paced mystery set in 1923 where gossip gains the upper hand over typical sleuthing as it helps in identifying the murderer. it's one of those cozy reads for a nice sunny afternoon, though, to be realistic it took a day to finish this book.
